Patrik Widrig has been associate professor of Dance at UMD since 2009, and co-artistic director of PEARSONWIDRIG DANCETHEATER since 1987. Professor Widrig is a recipient of a 2013 Dance Metro DC award for Outstanding Overall Production at a Large Venue, and of the first Dance Connect Commissioning Project from Dance Metro DC. PWDT has gained an international following for work that transforms the familiar into the mysterious, the subversive, and the intimate. Creating and presenting "American dance theater at its funniest and most compelling" [Neue Zürcher Zeitung, Switzerland], the company has toured extensively throughout the United States, Europe (Austria, England, Italy, Greece, Scotland, Slovakia, Switzerland, Wales), Latin America (Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Peru), Asia (China, India, Italy, Japan, South Korea) and New Zealand. Their work has been produced by major dance venues including Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, City Center Fall for Dance Festival, Joyce Theater, Central Park SummerStage, Lincoln Center Out-of-Doors, Jacobs Pillow, Symphony Space, DTW, PS122, Movement Research at Judson Church, Japan Society, 92nd Street Y, The Kitchen, Danspace Project, Dancing in the Streets, Bates Dance Festival, Flynn Center (Burlington, VT), CAC (New Orleans, LA), CEC Philadelphia, Hopkins Center (Hanover, NH), Kaatsbaan Arts Center (Tivoli, NY), Omaha Summer Festival, The Painted Bride (Philadelphia, PA), Portland Museum of Art (Portland, ME), Redfern Arts Center (Keene, NH), Rutgers University, Wagontrain Project (Lincoln, NE).and internationally at London’s Dance Umbrella; Festival Internacional de Danza in Lima, Peru; New Territories in Glasgow, Scotland; Chang Mu Arts Center in Seoul, South Korea; Beijing Normal University in Beijing, China; Darpana Academy in Ahmedabad, India; and two tours throughout Mr. Widrig’s native Switzerland. Performance and residency engagements in 2013-14 include a company tour to St. Petersburg, Russia, where they will teach, perform and create a new site-specific dance for the company and festival participants at the Open Look Festival (supported by the TDPS International Initiatives Fund and the Fund for United States Artists at International Festivals, administered by the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation); the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage; the opening of the newly renovated Dance Place in Washington, DC; the PS21 Summer Festival in Chatham, NY; a new site work in New York City commissioned and supported by the Leon Lowenstein Foundation; and performances at Sweet Briar College and at the Tenri Cultural Institute in New York City.
