Alexandra Kelly Colburn
ALEXANDRA KELLY COLBURN is a second year pursuing an MFA in Design specializing in Projections and Multimedia Design. Originally from Maryland, Kelly has a B.F.A. in Theater from New York University Tisch School of the Arts and has worked as a multimedia designer, stage manager, and director in New York City from 2011 - 2015. Prior to attending UMD, she assisted multimedia and projections designers Jared Mezzocchi, Reid Farrington, and Imaginary Media Artists as well as stage managed for Playwrights Horizons Theater School, the Meisner Studio, and various venues in Manhattan and Brooklyn.
At the University of Maryland she has designed for the Faculty Dance Concert (Alvin Mayes' From The Stoopand Patrik Widrig’s …and still doing…), Orange Grove Dance’s Tom In The Machine with Mark Costello, Julia Smith’s MFA Dance Thesis Hauntings, Curtis Stedge’s MFA Dance Thesis Invoking Justice, and mentored undergraduate projections designers for UMoves. This summer, she designed for Danny Baird and Meghan Stanton’s Romanov in Capital Fringe, Dance Exchange’s 40th Anniversary Gala with Mark Costello, and stage managed Juarez: A Documentary Mythology for Theater MITU in Torun, Poland at the Kontakt Festival and Santiago de Chile with DUOC University.
Upcoming work this year for Kelly includes Legacy & Liveness with Rob Siler and Carolyn Emery in the NextNOW Festival (directing and designing), Anne Frank at Olney Theatre Company (co-designing with Mark Costello, directed by Derek Goldman), Kiss at Woolly Mammoth (directed by Yury Urnov), untitled homage to my twenties in new york city for UMD’s Second Season (writing and directing), assisting Jared Mezzocchi at Arena Stage for Intelligence, and finally designing her pre-thesis at UMD with The Schooling of Bento Bonchev(directed by Yury Urnov.)
