Q-mars Mazandarani Haeri
Q-mars Haeri [MA, Critical Studies, Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) 2015] is a second year PhD student in the Theatre and Performance Studies program. He wrote his MA thesis on the significant role that religious passion plays (ta’zieh) have played in the development of other genres of theatre in Iran. He received his BA degree in dramatic literature from Azad University in Tehran (2014). During his time at Azad, he was elected as the head of the University Academic Association, won a prize for his directing of David Mamet’s Oleanna, and had his adaptation of Bertolt Brecht’s He Who Said Yes, He Who Said No produced by the Vaahe Art Collaborative. The 16th Iran International Festival of University Theater selected this play for a month-long public performance in Tehran and it went on to be performed at the Iran International Fadjr Festival in 2014. At the University of Maryland he intends to investigate the potential for Iranian theatre to gain the world-wide attention that Iranian Cinema has obtained. His research will be jointly guided by the faculty of the PhD program in Theatre and Performance Studies and the Roshan Institute for Persian Studies in the first proof of concept test of the potential impact of the proposed new International Program in Creative Collaboration and Research.
