This winter, design Professor Helen Huang was invited as a visiting professor - also called “The Foreign Experts of Professionals” - to teach a master class at The Central Academy of Drama in Beijing. The Central Academy of Drama is the first theatre higher educational institution of the People's Republic of China and now it is affiliated to China's Ministry of Education. It is ranked as one of the best top-level drama, Film & Television arts institutions in China and has been selected into the country’s construction plan of world first-class disciplines.
Helen’s lectures and workshop focused on teaching students and faculty about American methods and perspectives of costume design. Helen’s master class was centered around exploring the design used for The School of Theatre of Dance and Performance Studies’ production of Eurydice. Helen was proud to be able to teach at the Central Academy and share the strong student work produced by our School.
“One of the highlights was when I introduced TDPS and the students’ work at UMD. I’m was so proud that I could do this.” -Helen Huang
We’re thrilled that the work we do is influencing theatre culture internationally. Check out photos of Helen teaching at the Central Academy, including the design boards for Eurydice in the Academy’s Exhibition Hall.
