Choreography by undergraduate dance majors selected for National College Dance Festival

At The American College Dance Festival Association's regional conference,  If I Only Knew, was selected for performance at the National College Dance Festival in June 2014.

UMD’s School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies (TDPS) dancers and choreographers were honored with an invitation to perform the dance work, If only I knew at the Kennedy Center this June. If only I knew was choreographed by Bethany Disque, BA Dance '13 and Chelsea Boyd Brown, a junior dance and psychology double major. Bethany and Chelsea performed the duet at the 2013 Spring Maryland Dance Ensemble (above image) and also at Dance Bethesda and Brace Dance in New York City. Their performance was chosen for the Annual Choreographer’s Showcase in January 2014 at the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, which previews the work of numerous artists who later become mainstays of the DC dance scene.

Congratulations to undergraduate dance majors Jonathan Hsu and Devin Seldon, dancers in the ACDFA performance of If I Only Knew, which was selected to be performed at the ACDFA National College Dance Festival Performance at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in June 2014. The dance was chosen during the American College Dance Association's (ACDFA) Mid-Atlantic Regional College Dance Festival held recently at George Mason University, and is the only undergraduate work to be selected for this honor. The National Festival, normally a biennial event held at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC, showcases dances selected by the adjudicators from each of the regional conferences based on their outstanding artistic excellence and merit. The primary objective of the National Festival is to highlight, on the national level, the outstanding quality of choreography and performance that is being created on college and university campuses. The National Festival provides this venue in three gala performances, presenting works from approximately 30 colleges and universities.

The American College Dance Festival Association's primary focus is to support and promote the wealth of talent and creativity that is prominent throughout college and university dance departments.
