Max Doolittle, assistant lighting designer for Shakespeare Theatre's Tartuffe, quoted in Washington Post

July 20, 2015 School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies

MFA candidate in lighting Design, Max Doolittle, was the assistant lighting designer for Tartuffe, performed at the Shakespeare Theatre Company this past June.

Nelson Pressley of The Washington Post reviewed the June production of Tartuffe at the Shakespeare Theatre Company. He writes: "The current production of Tartuffe at the Shakespeare theatre features an intricate lighting design."

Mr. Pressley discusses the director, Dominique Serrand; the lighting designer, Marcus Dilliard; and, the set designer, Serrand and Thomas Buderwitz. He then references his interview with Max Doolittlle, MFA candidate in lighting design, who was assistant lighting designer for the production.

D.C.-based lighting assistant Max Doolittle joined the show for this local leg. "It's so nice to do something honest," he says. "Something that tries to exploit nature for drama, rather than just light for light's sake." Like Dilliard, he notes Serrand's disinclination to call for a little extra illumination when an actor moves into a dim area: "It's the first show I've done that hasn't had any of that."

Very cool Max Doolittle!
