This position of Communications and Marketing Coordinator in the School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies will research, create and organize content for website and marketing materials for the School by conducting interviews and attending School events and productions. The person in this position will meet regularly with School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies’ faculty and director, marketing personnel from the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, the College of Arts & Humanities and the University of Maryland to communicate the School’s priorities. The position will report to the Director of the School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies.

Essential Duty/Responsibility (1) – 30%:

  1. Coordinate School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies website and social media;
  2. Serve as administrator of School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies website. 
  3. Oversee design changes and updates, address needs and issues with web host; update text and media content;
  4. Chair School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies Website and Tech Committee;
  5. Communicate School news to students, alumni, and community through social media presence.

Essential Duty/Responsibility (2) – 55%

  1. Coordinate School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies advertising and marketing information with Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, College of Arts and Humanities and University of Maryland University Relations;
  2.  Develop strategic plans to promote the national and international profile of the School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies;
  3. Create marketing text for Main and Second Season shows;
  4. Coordinate press appearances, interviews, photo shoots, press releases etc. with Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center marketing;
  5. Collect production information from faculty, staff and students to process and create program content for main season shows;
  6. Update the master document (Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center Marketing database) with production updates;
  7. Act as liaison between the School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies and Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center marketing; proof-read and edit marketing materials produced by Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center marketing staff, such as programs, calendars, and posters for season shows;
  8. Promote the School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies Main Season productions and academic events with the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center staff;
  9. Create School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies recruitment brochures with input from School Director and staff ;
  10. Work with the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center staff in designing and coordinating School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies ads in national journals/magazines;
  11. Promote School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies performance events, fundraisers, alumni events, student group activities, workshops, master classes, and academic activities;
  12. Work as main liaison between School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies and Board of Visitors;
  13. Work as main liaison between Director and Alumni Coordinator of School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies and Alumni Leadership Council.

Essential Duty/Responsibility (3) – 15%

  1. Coordinate School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies archival activities;
  2.  Hire photographers/videographers and coordinate photographs and videotaping of Main Season and Second Season School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies shows;
  3. Coordinate (copy, archive, and distribute) photos and video of School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies events and shows;
  4. Provide archival copies of posters and programs of School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies shows and events to University of Maryland Archives.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum of 3-years’ experience in communications, marketing or public relations.
  • Experience must include work with web sites and social media.
  • Candidates must demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Candidate must demonstrate ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative environment.

Preference:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, or Public Relations.
  • Experience in marketing and/or communications in a performing arts organization.
  • Experience with the Drupal content management system.
