Position summary: 

The Assistant to the Director and Coordinator of Graduate Services is appointed by, reports to, and serves at the discretion of the Director of the School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies (TDPS or the School). This position serves as initial point of contact to the Director.

This position is administrative coordinator of Appointment, Promotion, and Tenure (APT) in the School; four active Graduate programs; and review and preparation of confidential and time sensitive correspondence with the Director. 

They must be able to handle competing priorities, have strong communication and writing skills, strong computer skills, be pro-active, discreet, and a team player. Independent judgment as well as understanding of daily and monthly School priorities is required.

Must have strong organizational skills.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • A minimum of 4 year’s of administrative work experience required.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask and prioritize the management of complex responsibilities. 
  • Candidates must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability and desire to work with diverse populations of students and faculty.
  • Self-motivated. 
  • Able to function independently and as a member of a team in a constantly changing environment. 
  • Professional attitude and high ethical standards. 
  • Competency with word processing, spreadsheet, and data management software packages

Preferences:    

  • Knowledge of academic policies and procedures in the relation to graduate education.
  • Knowledge of Appointment,Promotion, and Tenure  policies, procedures and timelines.
  • Knowledge of the University of Maryland’s graduate SIS, MEGS and Graduate School deadlines.
