Mina Kawahara

Mina Kawahara

Graduate Student, School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies

Mina Kawahara (she/her) is a first-year Ph.D. student who is also an actor, singer, songwriter and instrumentalist. She is originally from Japan. She holds a B.F.A. in musical theatre from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, an M.A. in theatre from Villanova University and an M.F.A. in musical theatre from the Boston Conservatory at Berklee. 

Her research interests include gender performance in traditional Japanese theatre practices, sexualization and objectification of Asian characters in Western musical theatre, and American musical theatre history. She is interested in cultivating emotionally healthy training, education and practice for actors and looks forward to finding a bridge between scholarship, practice and education.
