MFA Design students travel to Alabama

Trip to Alabama deepens MFA design students' understanding of the context of the Opera, Regina, for which they are designing set, lighting and costume.

In early August MFA Design students Diana Chun, Tyler Gunther, and Max Doolittle travelled to Huntsville, Alabama to study period architectural style and customs for their work on the upcoming Maryland Opera Studio production of Regina, based on Lillian Hellman’s The Little Foxes. Set in reconstruction era Alabama, Regina uses the backdrop of a rapidly changing South as a warning to the pitfalls of unchecked greed and deceit. Max, Tyler, and Diana spent several days touring period houses and meeting with local historians to deepen their understanding of the context of the opera. To say nothing of the grits and country fried steaks!
