In the Theatre major, mandatory advising each semester provides students with the opportunity to build a relationship with their advisor for the purpose of gaining assistance in planning their educational career, learning the skills needed for academic success, and in learning how to access the variety of resources and services available to them on the Maryland campus.

Program News

University of Maryland (UMD) alumni John Ford ‘64 and Sandra Poster ‘64 met during their undergraduate years in the UMD Theatre program, then known as Speech & Dramatic Arts. They went on to build careers in speech and communications, and they are longtime patrons of the arts.

The Hecuba Project was created by Lisa Nathans, Rachel Park, and Christine Breihan as a performance laboratory geared towards exploring the full range, resonance, power, and potential of our own female voices as both performers and educators. 

TDPS Production Manager Cary Gillett traveled to Beijing, China this July to broaden knowledge of theatre--stage management, in particular--to Chinese practitioners.
