Program History and Goals

The International Program for Creative Collaboration and Research (IPCCR) is a ten-year program (2017–2027) funded by the Robert H. Smith Family Foundation as part of our “Defining the Future of the Performing Arts” initiative and is a partner in Global UMD.

The IPCCR supports international projects that enhance the educational experience of our TDPS community, furthers the research of our faculty and graduate students, fosters collaboration and increases the international profile of the School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies.

The program is seeking project proposals for in-person, digital or virtual international collaborations and research. This may include in-person or virtual/online conferences, internships, exchange programs, conference presentations, festival or workshop participation, performances, and other globally inclusive, innovative faculty/student research projects.

Eligibility

TDPS graduate students and faculty (TTK and PTK).

Evaluation Criteria

Eligible proposals will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

• The potential for this application to achieve the stated program goals.
  • Primary criteria include the potential for:
    • Promotion of international collaboration
    • Contribution of new knowledge to the researcher’s field, demonstrating creativity and innovation
    • Positive impact on the school, the university and the individual researcher
  • Secondary considerations include the potential for:
    • Increased faculty and graduate student knowledge of international trends in the field
    • Enhancement of TDPS’s and UMD’s international reputation
• The quality of the proposed project with regard to its description and scope, planning and preparation.
• The feasibility of the proposed project within the proposed timeframe and budget.
• Priority will be given to applicants who have not received funding in the previous cycle.

Award Amounts

• Faculty/staff individual grants are funded up to $6,500
• Graduate student individual grants are funded up to $4,000

Post Award Expectations

• Award winners will:
  • Turn in a preliminary report on the project's outcomes along with the receipts for reimbursement.
    • Please note, these are reimbursable grants. Grantees will need to cover expenses upfront and request reimbursement when the project is concluded.  Grant recipients are encouraged to meet with the TDPS Assistant Director of Finance, Teri Zillmer (zillmer@umd.edu), before spending any approved grant money in order to minimize such out-of-pocket expenses. Meet with her early as some purchasing takes time to be approved.
  • Make a presentation to the TDPS community at the IPCCR Symposium, which will take place during the Fall 2024 semester, date TBD.
  • Turn in a final report on the project’s outcomes within 10 working days of the public presentation. Final reports will be published and used for future IPCCR fundraising.
• Failure to meet these requirements will delay reimbursements and result in a 3-year suspension from participation in any IPCCR funded project. The suspension will be noted in the published report authored by the IPCCR.
