Luis Garcia

Graduate Student, School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies

Luis Garcia (he/him) is an M.F.A lighting + media candidate at the University of Maryland. Originally from Kissimmee, Florida, he received his B.A. in theatre arts from Stetson University in 2016. Over the past few years Luis has worked closely with many theaters such as the Studio Theatre, Repertorio Espanol, and the Oregon Shakespeare Festival to name a few. His work has been recognized nationally with nominations/awards from USITT (2017 Rising Star Nominee, 2016 Gateway Mentee) and LDI (2018 Live Design 30 Under 30 Recipient). 

As a first generation Peruvian-American, Luis’s  future goal is to help cultivate spaces for young POC artists to express their interest in the arts and have access to a network of professional mentors that they can relate to. In 2020, Luis joined La Gente: The Latinx Theatre Design Network, a supportive resource for professional designers, technicians and managers actively engaged and working in live theater and performance.
