Patrick Mark Saunders

School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies

Patrick Mark Saunders (he/him) is a first-year doctoral student in theatre and performance studies. He hails from Providence, Rhode Island, where he began his work as an actor, director, and educator. He holds a B.A. in theatre arts and English from Providence College and an M.F.A. in acting from the University of Essex (East 15 Acting School). While in London, he also completed an educational residency at Shakespeare’s Globe.
His research interests, much like his directing projects, center around the practice and purpose of adapting literature for performance. He is particularly interested in examining queer representation within such adapted works. Other interests include (but are certainly not limited to) acting methodologies, verse texts in performance, and Portuguese theatre.
He has served as an acting instructor and guest director at Providence College and the University of Rhode Island, and his acting credits include performances at Trinity Rep, Gamm Theatre, Wilbury Theatre Group, Ocean State Theatre Company, and abroad at Arcola Theatre and the Tristan-Bates Theatre. A certified Consent-Forward Artist through Intimacy Directors and Coordinators and a proud member of the Actor’s Equity Association, his professional affiliations also include ATHE, ATDS, and ASTR.
