Casting Director Panel & Workshop

School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies Friday, April 28, 2023 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, Cafritz Foundation Theatre

This event is only open to current TDPS students. 

Join us for a panel discussion and workshop with three leading local casting directors. This will help prepare you for strong auditions in the professional world, in theatre, film and TV. Active workshop participants will be current students from Actors Process II. All other students are encouraged to come and learn through observation and participation in the panel. Guest Artists:

Michelle Kozlak: Michelle’s arts management career in the Washington, DC area started at the Kennedy Center, where she was the National Touring Manager for the TYA program, and then the Manager of Theater Programming, where she served as General Manager for the mainstage productions.  From 2006-2021, she served as the Casting Director for the Kennedy Center’s TYA program.  Additionally, Michelle has served as an arts commissioner for the City of Alexandria and is currently the Producing Artistic Director of Arts on the Horizon. She has a BA in English with a minor in Theatre from the University of Oregon and an MA in Arts Management from American University.
 
Edward Daniels: Edward Daniels is an actor, producer, and entrepreneur working steadily in film and theatre in Washington, DC, since 2003. His Washington, DC area acting credits include Round House Theatre, Charter Theatre, American Century Theatre, Washington Shakespeare Company, The Kennedy Center, and Studio Theatre. He has twice appeared in the annual Source Theatre Festival as well as the annual Capital Fringe Festival and has received an Outstanding Achievement in Acting Award from the Source Theatre Festival as well as a Helen Hayes Award for Outstanding Ensemble in the Resident Musical category. Daniels is also the creator and producer of Monologue Madness, DC’s annual tournament of acting, a competition which attracts actors from up and down the east coast who compete for an array of awards including a $1000 grand prize. Monologue Madness celebrates its 11th anniversary in 2023 with competitions in Washington, DC, Atlanta, Los Angeles, and new stops in NYC and Chicago and has offered over $20,000 in cash and actor resources throughout its tenure. Daniels is a 2002 graduate of the University of Virginia, holding a B.A. in Philosophy, and is a proud member of Actors’ Equity Association, the Union of Professional Actors and Stage Managers in the United States.

Scott Goodhue: Scott Goodhue is a casting director who worked in technical writing roles for several years before the world of entertainment drew him to it. In 2001 he became the owner of Taylor Royall, a casting company covering the Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Virginia region. In his role as Casting Director, Scott has been involved in sourcing roles for more than 20 years as well as being involved in many other aspects of the business. In his long career, he has cast for award-winning projects in categories that include top-rated TV shows such as The West Wing, notable commercials, and print and stills advertising. Scott has a B.A. in English Composition from Beloit College and an M.A. in Technical and Professional Writing from Northeastern University. He lives in Baltimore and enjoys acting, circuit training, travel, skiing, reading, watching movies, and improv. He is always looking for the best person to fill the role.
