Choreography by Gabriel Mata

re/living peers into the space of what once was. Through movement inspired by the disco era, Mata creates a space for bodies to explore self-expression and come together. Disco created an environment that not only gave marginalized bodies recognition, but also celebrated them and their communities. The work makes space to interrogate the iconography of commercialized disco and recognize bodies that created the space to thrive. This work pays tribute to disco and examines how it can be repurposed, recycled and reengaged today for the self and in the community.

Through movement that is at once cerebral, kinetic and athletic, Gerardo explores the notion of time at the intersection of duration and endurance. Her work raises questions about how performers and audiences communicate and perceive time through repetition and attention. telepathic maps continually reorients preconceived notions of spectatorship, uncovers existing identities and forms new ones
