Announcing Questfest at UMD April 1&2

February 25, 2014 School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies

Tebogo Munyai performs Right Inside at the University of Maryland as part of Quest Fest 2014

Imagine if you could remove all the roof tops of all the houses in your community and be able to see what is taking place behind closed doors. Right Inside is an installation performance work that draws attention to issues of displacement and belonging. This installation work challenges the way in which the performance is created, and the relationship between the audience member and the performers. It encourages audience members to reflect on the way in which they engage (or do not engage) with their community realities and to see into a world they choose to not see. The performers are enclosed in portable, freestanding corrugated iron structures, referred to as “shacks”. Attendees can walk around the performance area and peep through the scattered holes around the shack in order to have a view of what is happening ‘Right Inside’. At the University of Maryland, the performances will be held in the central foyer of the Art/Soc Building
