TDPS in the 2023 Helen Hayes Award Nominations

TDPS alumni and faculty are among this year’s nominees.

Congratulations to the alumni and faculty from the University of Maryland’s School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies (TDPS) who were nominated for 2023 Helen Hayes Awards! Nominees are recognized for their phenomenal work in the theater community of D.C., Maryland and Virginia.

This year, the awards include a new category in media and projections design, with one TDPS faculty member and four TDPS alumni nominated.

The Helen Hayes Award celebration will take place May 22, 2023.

TDPS nominees include:

Outstanding Costume Design - Helen

Outstanding Lighting Design - Hayes

Outstanding Set Design - Hayes

  • Daniel Conway – The Tempest (Round House Theatre)

Outstanding Media/Projections Design - Hayes

  • Kelly Colburn '18 – Dear Mapel (Mosaic Theater Company)
  • Jared Mezzocchi – We declare you a terrorist.... (Round House Theatre)

Outstanding Media/Projections Design - Helen

  • Jeremy Bennett '21 – Elegies: A Song Cycle (The Keegan Theatre) and Yoga Play (The Keegan Theatre)
  • Kelly Colburn '18 – La Casa De La Laguna*** (GALA Hispanic Theatre)
  • Zavier Augustus Lee Taylor '22 – The Amazing Adventures of Dr. Wonderful (And Her Dog!) (The Keegan Theatre)

Charles MacArthur Award for Outstanding New Play or Musical Adaptation
