TDPS is seeking to fill three new positions

TDPS is seeking to fill three new faculty positions: an assistant professor of directing and acting (tenure track), an artist-in-residence in creative performance and a lecturer in acting for live digital performance (full time, non-tenure track). These three new positions are funded by the Maya Brin Institute for New Performance, which is committed to the exploration of technologically enhanced live performance in all its current, emerging, and future forms.

Assistant professor of directing and acting (tenure track)

The successful candidate will have or show promise of a strong creative research record and an ability to teach courses in directing and acting for live performance. The candidate will direct Main Season production, in collaboration with graduate student designers. The faculty member’s creative activities should be related to the program’s curriculum, reflecting a high standard consistent with and supportive of the mission and initiatives of the School and University.

Artist-in-residence in creative performance

Duties will focus on teaching classes related to expertise as a director, choreographer, devisor, and/or generative artist with a history of digital, live, and in person hybrid performance. Teaching responsibilities in area of expertise as related to current curriculum. In addition, the candidate will design and teach new courses that contribute to curriculum in arts and technology. The successful candidate will maintain a program of research/creative activity appropriate to the University of Maryland’s standing as a Research I University and will regularly disseminate the results of their investigations in appropriate national/international forums. The Maya Brin Institute faculty, in addition, build their teaching portfolios by teaching general education classes and required graduate courses as appropriate to their training and experience. TPDS Faculty are required to be actively involved in School governance, the intellectual and artistic life of the School, the College of Arts and Humanities, and the University community.

Lecturer in acting for live digital performance

Duties will focus on acting and performance for multiple platforms, including stage, virtual, and hybrid. Teaching responsibilities in area of expertise as related to current curriculum in Acting, Acting for the Camera, and Voiceover. In addition, the candidate will design and teach new courses that contribute to curriculum in arts and technology. The successful candidate will maintain a program of research/creative activity appropriate to the University of Maryland’s standing as a Research I University and will regularly disseminate the results of their investigations in appropriate national/international forums. The Maya Brin Institute faculty, in addition, build their teaching portfolios by teaching general education classes and required graduate courses as appropriate to their training and experience. TDPS faculty are required to be actively involved in School governance, the intellectual and artistic life of the School, the College of Arts and Humanities, and the University community.
